Buffy - Take a bite of the slayer

Sunnydale - a little dreamy place somewhere in California. Noone ever thinks of anything evil and nasty, when he comes to Sunnydale. But the inhabitants of this little town are living lives of danger. Eventually Sunnydale was built some time ago on the surface of Hellmouth by mayor Richard Wilkens III. Vampires, demons, all the forces of darkness endanger the joy of the lives of the people in Sunnydale. But one citizen stands up to fight: Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Buffy is not an ordinary teenager. She is the chosen one, the slayer.

BuffyKicked out from her old school she moves to Sunnydale along with her mother, hoping to escape from her destiny. Little does she know at that time what is going to happen.
Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), her new school's librarian knows about her destiny. He was chosen by the council to be her watcher. His job is to train and educate the slayer so she will be able to use her unique power to fight the forces of evil. Buffy, reluctant at first, finally sees the huge importance of her being and is ready to fight against the Master of Vampires. Her closest friends, the shy Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan), the ever-funny Xander Harris (Nicolas Brendon), sometimes even the arrogant Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) support her by deeds and advice. But one of the most important persons in her life becomes someone else too: Angel (David Boreanaz) is a vampire who got back his human soul (conscience in this context) in 1867 being cursed. From this time on he has been wandering around, being homeless. He cannot cope with the fact that he has done so much killing in the past. At this point he meets Buffy who alters his "life" completely. A wonderful romance starts between slayer and slayee. But of course, this romance is far from being an ordinary teenage love relationship (apart from the fact that Angel is more than 200 years old!).

Yet in 1992 there was a movie shown in the US which was about the story of the vampire slayer. It went by the name of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. But even the cast featuring Luke Perry (known from Beverly Hills 90210), Donald Sutherland and Kristy Swanson, could not avoid critical and financial failure.
Five years later, in 1997, a Warner Bros show premiered whose topic and plot are based on the movie. But the show had one advantage:
It featured starlet Sarah Michelle Gellar who had become popular only shortly before starring in the successful soap opera All My Children. The public's attention was attracted. They could still very clearly remember the character of Kendall Hart from that show. The cute, loveable way Sarah played the vampire slayer, imediately fascinated the audition and the show became one of america's most popular TV shows within one year.

The attraction of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is mainly that it's not one of those usual vampire stories. The show's plot is more based on quite human emotions such as love and true friendship, combined with paranormal phenomenons and hillarious quotes, which also made shows like Friends very successful. Some of these quotes shall be shown in the following:

Willow: "You think he was killed by someone?"
Cordelia: "No I'm sure it was natural causes, he crawled into a locker and died of old age."
(Pilot)

Buffy: "Eddie, hey! Wait up. God, I was worried that something had happened to you, and of course it has because you're a vampire."
(The Frehman; Seson 4, Episode 1)

Snyder (Pricipal from Sunnydale High School): "Just give me a reason to kick you out, Summers. Just give me a reason." Cordelia: "How 'bout because you're a tiny, impotent Nazi with a bug up his butt the size of an emu."
(Becoming, Part One; Season 2, Espisode 21)

Willow: Happy hunting!
Buffy: Wish me monsters!
(Living Conditions; Season 4, Episode 2)

Buffy: "It's weird, though. In this way, I feel like he's still watching me."
Willow: "Well, in a way he sort of is...in the way of that he's right over there."
(Angel; Season 1, Episode 7)

Buffy (zu Angel): "Come on, you've been dating for what, like 200 years? You don't know what a girl means when she says maybe she'll show?"
Willow: "Wow, two centuries of dating. If you only had two a year, that's still, like, 400 dates with 400 different...Why do they call it a mace?"
(School's Hard; Season 2, Episode 3)

Giles: "I've made up my mind."
Buffy: "So have I."
Giles: "I made up mine first!"
(Prophecy Girl; Season 1, Episode 12)

Anya: "You know, you can laugh, but I have witnessed a millenium of treachery and oppression from the males of the species and I have nothing but contempt for the whole libidinous lot of them."
Xander: "Then why you talking to me?"
Anya: "I don't have a date for the prom."
Xander: "Well gosh. I wonder why not. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with your sales pitch?"
Anya: "Men are evil. Will you go with me?"
(Prom; Season 3, Episode 20)

Spike (Vampir; zu Angel): "You were my sire, man! You were my...Yoda!"
(School's Hard; Season 2, Episode 3)

Angel and BuffyXander: "If there's something bad out there, we'll find, you'll slay, we'll party!"
(Nightmares; Season 1, Episode 14)

Willow: "Oz, don't you love me?"
Oz: "My whole life, I've never loved anything else."
(Wild At Heart; Season 4, Episode 6)

Snyder: "Halloween must be a big night for you. Tossing eggs, keying, bobbing for apples -- one pathetic cry for help after another."
(Halloween; Season 2, Episode 5)

Buffy: "In other words, your typical male."
Xander: "On behalf of my gender, "Hey!"
(Phases; Season 2, Episode 15)

Angel: "I'll never hurt her."
Jenny: "You were born to hurt her. Have you learned nothing? As long as you are alive..."
Angel: "Then I'll die."
Jenny: "You don't have the strength to kill yourself.
Angel: "I don't need strength. I just need the sun to rise.
(Amends; Season 3, Episode 10)

Cordelia: "Excuse me. Who gave you permission to exist?"
(The Harvest; Season 1, Episode 3)

Buffy: "Giles! I accidentally killed Spike! That's okay, right?"
(Something Blue; Season 4, Episode 9)

Giles: "Buffy, when I said you could slay vampires and have a social life, I didn't mean at the same time."
(Never Kill A Boy On The First Date; Season 1, Episode 6)

Buffy: "Do...do you think I chose to be like this? Do you have any idea how lonely it is, how dangerous? I would love to be upstairs watching TV or gossiping about boys or...God, even studying! But I have to save the world... again."
(Becoming Part 2; Season 2, Episode 22)

Giles: "Why should someone want to harm Cordelia?"
Willow: "Maybe because they met her? Did I say that?"
(The Witch; Season 1, Episode 3)

Xander: "You know, this might go a lot faster if you femmes actually picked up a shovel, too."
Giles: "Hear hear!"
Buffy: "Sorry, but I'm an old-fashioned gal. I was raised to believe that men dig up the corpses and women have the babies."
(Some Assembly Required; Season 2, Episode 2)
